Understated elegance for a science teacher and her family

Brand new construction was created for a family that was downsizing. One of the owners is a science teacher and wanted a home that mirrored her lifestyle and personal taste. The owners wanted to veer from builder-standard lighting, appliances, and tile selections in order to create a foundation tailored to their personalities. Research into materials inspired me to implement soapstone surround, replicating historic science lab counter tops, Moravian Star island lights, originating from an 1800s German geometry lesson, and orb chandeliers.

The floors are Heart of Pine and two 100-year-old beams were installed in the den area with additional shiplap ceiling detail. A large range was installed and a small marble spice rack was designed in a niche above the stove top. The countertops are Brazilian marble, who’s strong grey vein compliments the slate grey island. The master bath includes a freestanding bath and marble tile throughout.
